At 1200 hrs crews made the call for pumps twelve and an additional four appliances were mobilised from Yeovil, Crewkerne, Castle Cary and Wincanton.

Due to the number of fire fighters wearing BA equipment two incident support units were required to attend, these came from Taunton and Yeovil.

By 1500hrs the fire was under control and at 1600hrs the attending fire appliances was scaled down to four only. The remaining crews then completed the difficult task of removing the remainder of the thatch roof using drag forks.

The cause of this devistating fire which totally destroyed the first floor and thatched roof is still under investigation but as of yet the cause is still unkown.
